Epictet, a priest, and Astion, his disciple, boldly preached the Gospel in Scythia Minor. Arrested for converting pagans, they refused to sacrifice to idols. The judge, Dirsus, marveled at their steadfast faith and attempted to persuade them with honors, but they remained unyielding. They were tortured, their bodies raked with iron claws, yet they sang hymns to God. Miraculously healed by an angel, they converted many onlookers. Enraged, Dirsus ordered their beheading. As they were led to their execution, they prayed for their persecutors.
