St. Andrew, brother of St. Peter, preached the Gospel far and wide, from the shores of the Black Sea to Greece. In Patras, he was sentenced to death by crucifixion for converting the proconsul's wife. He insisted that he not be crucified in the same manner as Christ. So, he was bound, not nailed, to an X-shaped cross, where he preached for two days before yielding his soul to God.
