Born in Trebizond, St. John became a monk in a monastery near the Black Sea before relocating to Moldavia. He eventually settled near the town of Suceava. While traveling, he was unjustly accused of theft by a merchant and, after refusing to renounce his faith, was martyred in 1330. His body was found to be incorrupt and fragrant. The relics were eventually transferred to the Putna Monastery.

Venerable John the New, pray to God for us!
