Antim the Ivirian, a Georgian captured and enslaved in Ottoman lands, rose to become a revered Metropolitan in Wallachia. Despite his high office, he never forgot his roots, using his printing press to spread Orthodox teachings in Romanian, Greek, and Slavonic. His dedication to his flock and his efforts to educate them led to his unjust exile and martyrdom. He was killed by soldiers who threw him into the river.
O, Hieromartyr Antim, pray to God for us, and inspire us to use our gifts to spread His word to all nations!
