Ermil and Stratonic were soldiers in the Roman army during the persecution of Christians. Ermil, a deacon, was arrested for his faith, and his friend Stratonic, a military commander, was tortured. Though offered freedom if they renounced Christ, they remained steadfast. Stratonic, witnessing Ermil's suffering, confessed his own Christianity. Both were horrifically tortured and eventually drowned in the Danube River, their bodies miraculously recovered and buried by Christians. Martyrs Ermil and Stratonic, pray for us!
