Emilian, a brave soul from Durostorum, lived during Julian the Apostate's reign. When the Emperor ordered all to worship idols, Emilian went into the pagan temple, and with a hammer, smashed the idols to pieces. He then overturned the altar. When confronted, he confessed his deed, declaring his faith in Christ. For this, he was sentenced to be burned alive. As the flames rose, Emilian stood firm, untouched by the fire until he gave up his spirit to God.
