In 1760, Martyr Oprea of Săliştea, a simple peasant, refused to renounce his Orthodox faith under pressure from the Austro-Hungarian authorities seeking forced conversion to Catholicism. Oprea stood firm, declaring his unwavering loyalty to Orthodoxy, even when faced with torture and imprisonment. He endured immense suffering, but his spirit remained unbroken. Eventually, he was martyred for his faith, becoming a symbol of resistance and steadfastness for Romanian Orthodox Christians.
Holy Martyr Oprea, pray that we may have the same courage to defend our faith in the face of adversity.
