St. Andrew, brother of St. Peter, was called by Jesus to be an Apostle. Before following Christ, he was a disciple of John the Baptist. Andrew preached the Gospel in many lands, including Scythia and Greece. He is said to have been crucified in Patras on an X-shaped cross, now known as St. Andrew's Cross, because he deemed himself unworthy to be crucified on the same type of cross as Jesus.
