Niphon, a monk from Mount Athos, was chosen as Patriarch of Constantinople, a role he accepted with reluctance. Known for his strict asceticism, he openly confronted Emperor Alexander regarding the emperor's sinful life. When Alexander refused to repent, Niphon left Constantinople, foreseeing the emperor's imminent death. He continued to guide many towards repentance, offering forgiveness and spiritual healing.
