Venerable Dimitrie the New of Basarabi was a simple shepherd who lived a life of extreme piety. One day, unjustly accused of a crime, he was brought before the authorities. He was tortured, but refused to renounce his faith. He was tied to a rope and thrown into the Danube River. His body was later found incorrupt, a testament to his holiness.
