Ermil, a deacon, and Stratonic, a guard, were martyred for their faith in Singidunum (Belgrade) during Licinius' reign. Ermil openly confessed his Christianity and was tortured. Stratonic, secretly a Christian, wept openly at Ermil's suffering, revealing his faith. Both were condemned; Stratonic was drowned in the Danube, while Ermil was beheaded after further torment.
