Hieromartyr Irineu, Bishop of Sirmium, steadfast in faith, refused to offer pagan sacrifices despite Emperor Maximian's orders. He was imprisoned and tortured, yet his spirit remained unbroken. When pressured again to renounce Christ, Irineu firmly declared his unwavering devotion. Enraged, the emperor commanded his beheading. As he was led to his execution, Irineu prayed for all, and after, he was slain, thereby becoming a martyr for Christ.
