Gregory IV, the Teacher, Metropolitan of Ţara Românească, stood firm against Phanariote influence, championing Romanian liturgical language in the 1820s. He reformed education, opened new schools, and supported printing Romanian books. When ordered to cease his work by the Ottomans, he refused, saying, "It is better to obey God than men." For his defiance, he was arrested and exiled, becoming a symbol of resistance.

Lord, guide us to defend our spiritual heritage as Gregory did.
