Saint Andrew, the First-Called, brother of Peter, and a humble fisherman, heard John the Baptist proclaim, "Behold, the Lamb of God!" and immediately followed Jesus. He brought his brother Peter to Christ, becoming the first to introduce him to the Lord. Tradition holds that after Pentecost, Andrew preached the Gospel in lands bordering the Black Sea, including present-day Romania. He was martyred in Patras, Greece, crucified on an X-shaped cross. May Saint Andrew, the First-Called, intercede for us, that we may be bold witnesses of Christ!
