In the reign of Emperor Maximian, Hermes, a Roman soldier, was a secret Christian. After miraculously healing the son of a judge from a life-threatening illness by invoking the name of Jesus Christ, Hermes openly declared his faith. He was then subjected to brutal tortures, yet he remained steadfast, converting two jailers, Agapius and Bustus, in the process. All three were eventually beheaded for their unwavering belief in Christ.
