St. Andrew, brother of St. Peter, was called by Jesus to be one of His first disciples. He preached the Gospel throughout Scythia and Greece. In Patras, Greece, he was crucified upside down on an X-shaped cross, because he deemed himself unworthy to be crucified in the same manner as the Lord. From the cross, he continued to preach for two days until he gave up his spirit to God.
