Venerable John the New of Prislop Monastery, known for his humble spirit, was a monk who lived a life of intense prayer and asceticism. He was known for his love for the poor and the suffering. Legend has it that a nobleman, angered by John's refusal to reveal the location of a hidden treasure, ordered his execution. John, offered a final chance to recant, instead prayed for his persecutors, and was martyred.

Venerable John, intercede for us, that we may be strengthened in faith and love, and that we may find the path to eternal life.
