In the village of Rudarica, Banat, Joseph was born around 1568. From a young age, he excelled in piety and learning. Becoming a monk at Partoș Monastery, he was later chosen as its abbot. Renowned for his wisdom and gentleness, he was elevated to Metropolitan of Timișoara. Despite his high office, Joseph remained humble, caring for the poor and healing the sick. It's said that during a drought, his prayers brought forth rain, saving the region from famine. After serving for only 3 years, feeling unworthy of the metropolitan seat, he resigned, returning to Partoș Monastery where he lived in simplicity until his death.
