Venerable Dimitrie the New of Basarabi, a humble shepherd, was martyred for his faith. In the 13th century, while journeying through Wallachia, he was captured and tortured for refusing to renounce Christ. His body was cast into the Danube. Miraculously, it was found incorrupt and was enshrined in a church in Basarabi. His relics exude a sweet fragrance, and many miracles have been attributed to his intercession.
