Hieromartyr Irineu, Bishop of Sirmium, during Emperor Maximian's reign, refused to offer sacrifices to idols. Brought before the emperor, he confessed his faith in Christ. Despite severe beatings and imprisonment, Irineu remained steadfast. The emperor, impressed by his resilience, offered him riches and honor to renounce Christ. Irineu refused, stating his allegiance to God. Angered, Maximian ordered his execution. Irineu was beheaded, thus earning his crown as a martyr.
