Martyr John, a merchant known for his honest dealings, was in Cetatea Albă when slandered before the Tartar governor. Refusing to renounce Christ for earthly riches and honor, he was brutally tortured. They beat him with clubs, tied him to a horse and dragged him through the city streets, and finally beheaded him. Even in death, his face shone with divine grace.
