Epictetus, a wise priest, and Astion, his determined student, spread the Gospel along the Danube in the first century. Arrested for their faith near present-day Halmyris, they refused to worship idols. After brutal tortures, their unwavering devotion led to their execution. Even in death, their peaceful countenances converted many.
