During World War I, as a young priest, Elijah Iorest served in a military hospital, tending to wounded soldiers. He often recounted a story of a soldier on the brink of death who, despite his agony, expressed immense fear of dying without receiving Holy Communion. Facing imminent enemy advance and with no readily available Holy Gifts, Elijah, driven by compassion, ventured into the battlefield, risking his life to retrieve the Holy Sacrament from a damaged church. He returned to the hospital and administered Communion to the dying soldier, who peacefully passed away moments later.

Let us pray that #God, through the intercessions of Elijah Iorest, grants us courage and unwavering faith to serve those in need, even in the face of danger. May his example inspire us to prioritize spiritual nourishment and to always offer comfort and solace to the suffering. #Prayer #OrthodoxChristian #HolySacrament #Courage #Faith
