Facing imminent enemy advance and with no readily available Holy Gifts, Elijah, driven by compassion, ventured into the battlefield, risking his life to retrieve the Holy Sacrament from a damaged church. He returned to the hospital and administered Communion to the dying soldier, who peacefully passed away moments later.
