In 1715, during a wave of forced conversions to Catholicism in Transylvania, Martyr Oprea, a Romanian Orthodox priest from Săliștea, was imprisoned for refusing to renounce his faith. He endured brutal torture, including having his beard and hair burned off, but remained steadfast. When offered freedom if he converted, he declared, "I will not betray my Orthodox faith for any earthly possessions or honors!" He was ultimately condemned and died in prison, a martyr for the true faith. Saint Oprea, pray to God for us!
