Donatus, Bishop of Arezzo, and Venustus suffered during Emperor Julian the Apostate's reign. When pagan authorities demanded they renounce Christ and sacrifice to idols, both steadfastly refused. Donatus boldly declared his faith, and after torture, they were beheaded. It is said, wherever Donatus's blood fell, churches sprang forth.
