Born in the 8th century, Gregory left his family to embrace monastic life. He traveled extensively, defending the veneration of icons during the Iconoclastic controversy. Enduring imprisonment and persecution for his beliefs, he performed miracles and healed the sick. In Constantinople, he confronted heretics and won many back to the true faith.
