Martyr John, a merchant of Trebizond, was in Crimea when a Venetian slandered him for his faith. Despite promises of wealth and honor if he renounced Christ, John refused. He was brutally tortured, dragged through the streets tied to a horse, and finally beheaded in Belgorod. His body, miraculously preserved, was venerated by both Christians and pagans.
