St. Andrew, brother of St. Peter, was called by Jesus to be an Apostle. Before following Christ, he was a disciple of St. John the Baptist. After the Pentecost, Andrew preached the Gospel throughout Scythia, along the Black Sea, and in Greece. He established the Church in Byzantium and was eventually crucified in Patras, Greece, on an X-shaped cross. He continued to preach to the very end, converting many to Christianity.
