During the reign of Emperor Antoninus Pius, Epictet, a young priest, and Astion, a senator, lived in the Roman city of Tomis (present-day Constanta, Romania). They were ardent Christians. Despite persecution, they openly preached Christ. They were arrested, tortured, and ordered to renounce their faith. They refused.

Their tormentors subjected them to brutal tortures, including burning with torches, and starving them, yet they persevered. Finally, they were executed by beheading. Their steadfast faith and willingness to die for Christ inspired many.
