St. Andrew, brother of St. Peter, preached the Gospel far and wide, from Scythia to Greece. In Patras, he converted many to Christ, angering the Roman proconsul Aegeates. Andrew was sentenced to crucifixion, but he requested a cross of a different shape, one that would allow him to preach longer to the crowds. He hung on the X-shaped cross for three days, teaching and blessing the people until he gave up his soul to God.
