Hieromartyr Irineu, Bishop of Sirmium, stood firm during Emperor Maximian's persecutions. When commanded to offer pagan sacrifices, he refused, declaring his allegiance to Christ. For this, he endured beatings and imprisonment. Despite torture, Irineu converted many, including his jailers. After further refusal to renounce his faith, he was beheaded in 304 AD.
