Martyr John, a merchant of Trebizond, was slandered by a jealous merchant to the Tartar governor in Belgorod. The governor, initially sympathetic, demanded John embrace Islam. John refused steadfastly. Enraged, the governor ordered him tortured: beaten with clubs, scourged with whips of oxhide, and dragged through the streets tied to a horse. Still, John did not deny Christ. Finally, he was beheaded. His body, thrown outside the city gates, was miraculously guarded by a light and eagles.
Holy Martyr John, intercede with Christ #God for us!
