In 1760, Martyr Oprea of Săliştea, a simple peasant, was summoned by the Austrian authorities to renounce his Orthodox faith and embrace Catholicism. Standing firm, Oprea refused to deny Christ, even when promised land and wealth. He endured imprisonment and torture. Oprea was hanged for his unwavering faith. His last words were a prayer for his persecutors.
