Martyr John the Valah, a Romanian youth in Wallachia, refused to convert to Islam in 1662 when captured by Tatars and sold to an Ottoman aga. Despite the aga's favor and promises of wealth, John remained steadfast in his Christian faith. Tortured and pressured to convert, he openly confessed Christ. Enraged, the aga ordered his beheading. Before his execution, John prayed for his persecutors. His martyrdom became a symbol of resistance against religious conversion.
