John, a merchant of Trebizond, was in Belgrade when slandered by a Latin for his faith. Prince refused gold to release him. John was tortured: beaten with clubs, whipped with ox-hide, head pierced, dragged by a horse. Unbroken, he was beheaded. His body, thrown outside the city, was watched over by a light. God revealed it to a priest, and it was buried with honor.
