During the Diocletianic persecutions, Saint Irineu, Bishop of Sirmium, was arrested and subjected to brutal torture. Refusing to renounce his faith, he was brought before the prefect and further pressured to offer sacrifice to the Roman gods. Despite the agonizing pain and threats of death, he remained steadfast. Ultimately, he was martyred for Christ in 304 AD. His unwavering faith in the face of such adversity serves as a testament to his deep devotion.
