Venerable Onufrie, born a simple peasant, yearned for monastic life from a young age. Despite his parents' wishes for him to marry, Onufrie secretly left home and joined the Vorona Monastery. There, he excelled in obedience and humility, becoming known for his asceticism and devotion. His spiritual father, recognizing Onufrie's exceptional gifts, later tonsured him as a monk. Onufrie eventually became the abbot, guiding the monastery with wisdom and compassion. Even after resigning from the abbacy to seek greater solitude, his influence remained, and he continued to inspire many with his holy life.
