St. Lup of Illyria was a soldier who, during the reign of Emperor Aurelian, witnessed the brutal torture and execution of St. Demetrius. Moved by his faith, Lup secretly collected Demetrius's blood-soaked garments and ring. He was soon discovered, and, refusing to renounce his faith, Lup was martyred with an axe. His relics are venerated for their miraculous powers.
