In the 14th century, Saint Gherasim, a monk at Tismana Monastery in Romania, faced martyrdom for defending the Orthodox faith. During a period of religious and political turmoil, he openly opposed those who sought to undermine Orthodox teachings. He was captured and tortured for his unwavering faith. Despite enduring immense suffering, he refused to renounce his beliefs. Saint Gherasim was ultimately beheaded, becoming a martyr for his steadfast commitment to Orthodoxy.
