Martyr John the Valah, a Romanian youth, refused to convert to Islam in 17th-century Constantinople. Despite immense pressure and torture, he openly confessed his Christian faith. Promised riches and honor if he converted, he declared Christ as his only treasure. Enraged, the Turkish authorities beheaded him. His steadfast faith shone brightly even in death.
