In 1715, during the Habsburg rule of Transylvania, Martyr Oprea, a Romanian Orthodox priest from Săliştea, refused to convert to the Uniate Catholic Church, despite facing severe persecution. He was imprisoned, tortured, and ultimately martyred for his unwavering faith. His refusal to renounce Orthodoxy inspired many to remain steadfast in their beliefs. He represents the courage of conviction, the strength of faith, and the importance of resisting oppression.
Holy Martyr Oprea, pray to God for us!
