Niphon, a monk from Mount Athos, reluctantly accepted the Patriarchate of Constantinople. Known for his strict moral standards, he clashed with the Byzantine Emperor for daring to reprimand him for immoral behavior. This led to his exile. Later, he became Metropolitan of Țara Românească, where he reformed the church.
