The angel Gabriel appeared to Mary, a virgin pledged to Joseph, in Nazareth. He announced she would conceive and give birth to Jesus, the Son of the Most High, through the Holy Spirit's power. Despite her initial bewilderment, Mary humbly accepted, declaring herself the Lord's servant. Her "yes" made possible the Incarnation, changing salvation history.
