In 1760, Martyr Oprea of Săliştea stood firm against the pressure to renounce his Orthodox faith and embrace Catholicism. Villagers were summoned to Alba Iulia and forced to convert. Oprea refused to sign the union with Rome, declaring his unwavering commitment to Orthodoxy, even if it meant death. He was imprisoned, tortured, and eventually martyred for his faith.
