On the eve of Saints Peter and Paul feast, in 304 AD, Veteranul, a Roman army veteran, confessed his faith openly. Dragged before the judge in Durostorum (now Silistra), he refused to sacrifice to idols. His steadfastness angered the judge, who ordered his immediate beheading. Even as he was led to his execution, Veteranul remained firm in his belief, encouraging other Christians to hold fast to their faith. His last words were a prayer to Christ.
