The four martyrs, Claudius, Castor, Sempronian, and Nicostratus, were stonemasons by trade, renowned for their skill in sculpting. Employed by Emperor Diocletian, they were tasked with creating an idol of a pagan god. However, they had secretly converted to Christianity and refused to participate in idolatry. They were commanded to complete the idol, but they professed their faith in Jesus Christ and renounced the pagan gods. Angered by their defiance, Diocletian subjected them to cruel tortures. Remaining steadfast in their faith, they endured their suffering with courage and were ultimately sentenced to death. Their unwavering belief in Christ led them to martyrdom, and they are now venerated as saints in the Orthodox Church.
