During Emperor Licinius's persecution of Christians, Ermil, a deacon, and Stratonic, a guard, were imprisoned. Stratonic, though a pagan, was drawn to Ermil's piety. After enduring torture for their faith, they were bound and cast into the Danube River in 315 AD. Their bodies were later recovered and venerated.
