During his imprisonment under the communist regime, Fr. Dumitru Stăniloae translated the Philokalia into Romanian. In solitary confinement, with limited resources, he meticulously worked on this monumental text, which became a cornerstone of modern Orthodox thought in Romania. His translation and commentary opened up the rich spiritual tradition of the Church Fathers to a wider audience, revitalizing Orthodox spirituality during a time of intense persecution.
