Born in the early 16th century to pious parents in Argeș, #Romania, Philotheia's life was marked by early loss and hardship. Her mother died when she was young, and her father remarried a cruel woman. This stepmother subjected Philotheia to harsh treatment and forced labor. One day, while taking food to workers in the field, she encountered some poor people and, filled with compassion, gave them the food. Enraged, her stepmother beat her mercilessly, causing injuries from which she died.
