Saint John the Valachian, a young Romanian, was captured by the Tatars and sold to a Turkish master in Crimea. Despite being pressured to convert to Islam and being offered wealth and freedom, John remained steadfast in his Christian faith. He refused to deny Christ, enduring severe beatings and torture. When he spat on an Islamic cleric's attempt to convert him, he was beheaded for blasphemy. Even in death, his face shone with divine grace, and a spring of holy water gushed forth at the site of his martyrdom.

Holy Martyr John, pray to God for us to remain strong in faith! #SaintJohn #Valachian #OrthodoxChristian #Martyr #Prayer
